Portland Locomotive Works has long combined model railroad manufacturing with historical research and publishing. Our research draws upon original photographs, railroad records, engineering drawings, maps, employee documents and other primary-source material to document the history and equipment of narrow gauge railroads.
Our publications include detailed studies of the Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes Railroad and its equipment, along with specialized historical works such as the F. Raymond Phillips Monthly Time Book. Additional railroad history and equipment books are currently in development.
This section will continue to expand with new publications, historical research, drawings, plans, photographs and other material from the Portland Locomotive Works archives.
