Over the years, Portland Locomotive Works has developed a wide variety of model railroad kits and specialty products. Some were produced in limited quantities, while others were designed but never released.

Our Legacy Kits collection showcases these earlier projects and offers the possibility of bringing selected designs back into production.

PLW Small Gas Station Kit — S & O Scales

This charming little gas station was originally produced by Portland Locomotive Works in both S and O scales.

The basic building provides an excellent starting point for modelers wishing to create their own roadside service station. With a little imagination, it can be finished to represent a variety of eras, locations, and gasoline brands.

The photographs illustrate two different interpretations of the same basic structure, demonstrating how easily the building can be customized to suit an individual layout.

Kit includes the building only. Gas pumps, lighting, vehicles, signs, and other accessories are not included.

Rio Grande Southern Placerville Station — HO Scale

Originally designed and produced by Portland Locomotive Works for Narrow Gauge Colorado Company, this HO-scale kit represents the distinctive Rio Grande Southern depot at Placerville, Colorado.

Only a couple of kits were sold before Narrow Gauge Colorado Company went out of business, making this one of PLW's lesser-known projects.

The station features a distinctive projecting operator's bay, board-and-batten siding, brick chimneys, and extensive platform decking.

The CAD rendering illustrates the original kit design, while the accompanying artistic rendering depicts the historic station in its Colorado setting.
