Small trackside shanties were once a common sight along railroads, providing shelter and workspace for crossing watchmen, signalmen and other railroad employees.

This Portland Locomotive Works kit is available in two different architectural versions, each featuring its own distinctive wall and trim treatment. Both are compact structures that can add considerable character to a railroad scene without requiring much layout space.

Although designed as railroad shanties, these little buildings are extremely versatile. They can also be used as a crossing watchman’s shelter, signalman’s shanty, gatekeeper’s hut, yard office, section shelter, industrial guard shack or other small utility building.

Their small footprint makes them particularly useful for filling otherwise unused spaces along the right-of-way, in yards, around industrial areas or beside highway crossings.

Scenery, track, figures, vehicles, signals and additional detail items shown in the photographs are NOT included with the kit.
